Trans and gender diverse people

Trans and gender diverse people with a uterus can also become pregnant. It is not only cisgender women who become pregnant.

Gender affirming hormones, including testosterone (or T), are not contraceptives. People taking gender affirming hormones can still become pregnant.

There are contraception options, including hormonal contraception, that do not impact on gender affirming hormones.[1]

Like with anyone, trans and gender diverse people will have different feelings about a pregnancy.

It may be positive for some people. It may cause gender dysphoria for other people.

There is no right or wrong way to feel about a pregnancy.

It is important to see a doctor if you think might be pregnant and may want to continue the pregnancy. You will need to pause gender affirming hormones during pregnancy.[2]

You have a right to gender affirming pregnancy or abortion care that is free from discrimination.
